Is the identification performance of airport bird-deterrent equipment affected by the background?

It will be affected, but the impact is controllable, and thermal imaging is less susceptible to background interference than visible-light imaging.
• The primary sources of interference in thermal imaging recognition are “insufficient temperature contrast” and “complex thermal backgrounds.” For example, ground or rooftops exposed to direct sunlight, engine exhaust outlets, hot rocks, and reflections from warm water surfaces can reduce the temperature difference between the target and the background or create spurious hot spots. Similarly, post-rain conditions and hazy or foggy weather can lower overall temperature contrasts, making the target edges less distinct. The device supports white-hot, black-hot, and multiple pseudo-color palettes, as well as hotspot tracking, 1–8× electronic zoom, and picture-in-picture magnification, all of which help enhance contrast and improve target acquisition.
• Visible-light/green-laser visual performance is more sensitive to the background: backlighting, strong reflections, light-colored backgrounds, and smoke or haze can significantly reduce visibility and the “visible beam” effect of the laser; however, this does not affect thermal imaging as the primary detection method for initial target acquisition.
On-site operational recommendations: First, use thermal imaging to conduct hotspot screening in the area with the most complex background → enable tracking and zoom in for confirmation → if necessary, switch polarity or apply false-color enhancement to improve contrast → then perform distance measurement and implement tiered crowd control measures.

Can airport bird-scaring equipment be used in smog, dust, and at night?

The solution leverages infrared thermal imaging to ensure target detection capability under low-visibility conditions, complemented by visible-light detail recording.
It can be used, but its effectiveness depends on visibility and target distance. This solution employs 8–14 μm infrared thermal imaging as the primary detection method under low-visibility conditions and at night, supporting white-hot, black-hot, and multi-伪color modes, hotspot tracking, and 1–8× electronic zoom. Under typical climatic conditions, the detection and identification ranges can reach approximately 2,000–5,000 m and 500–800 m, respectively. On clear nights, the nominal repellent range for birds (approximately 20 × 20 cm in size) is ≥2,000 m. Fog, haze, and dust can attenuate laser visibility and effective range; therefore, on-site operations can ensure usability by following a workflow that first uses thermal imaging for detection, then performs range measurement, and finally applies tiered power levels or strobe-based repulsion. During the site survey phase, the effective disposal range and operational boundaries for each location should be determined.

Do airport bird-scaring devices harm birds or affect personnel?

This solution is intended for bird deterrence and avoidance, with the guiding principle of non-contact and no capture or killing. It leverages birds’ strong sensitivity to 532 nm green light to induce discomfort and prompt them to leave the area, complemented by thermal imaging for detection and tracking. The laser system is classified as Class 2M, which is controllable under proper operating procedures; however, it still poses a potential risk to human eyes. Therefore, strict on-site safety boundaries and no‑emission rules must be enforced, including: absolutely prohibiting direct beam exposure to human eyes; avoiding reflective surfaces; refraining from directing the beam toward densely populated areas or vehicle drivers; establishing no‑emission sectors and height limits in sensitive environments such as airports; and recommending dual‑operator coordination.
